The Hearts of Conspiring Men

 If you are convinced that it is important to keep the Word of Wisdom, then it’s time to dig in and make a plan. The first step is to study the scriptures of Section 86 and see what the Word of Wisdom actually says (and what it does not say). There are some areas of the Word of Wisdom that are open to interpretation, but most of it is very clear. 

Let’s start at the beginning.

Section 86:1a: “Behold, verily thus saith the Lord unto you,  In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you,  by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation . . .”

 

Does anyone doubt that we are seeing “evil and designs” “in the hearts of conspiring men”? I hope you can see this and how it is affecting our food sources. Profit is now the driving factor behind much of our food manufacturing and not nutrition.  

Many family farms are no longer able to survive financially and are being taken over by large corporations. Over the past forty years in the United States, increasing corporate consolidation of food production, processing and distribution has placed important decisions about our nation’s food system in the hands of a few large companies. This gives these corporations enormous power over what food is produced and how, where and by whom it is produced. This is not just an issue in the United States, but a trend around the world.    

We can see these “evils and designs” playing out in the chemicals and pesticides used on fruits and vegetables to make them look more appealing, and to prolong their shipping and storage life. We can see it in the raising of livestock where growth rates and production take precedence over healthy animals, causing degradation of the quality of our meat, milk, and eggs.

We can see it in the processing and manufacturing of the flour and baked goods in our stores. For more information on this topic, please read these two posts:

We are to be aware of what is going on around us, but we are not to fear. God has told us what to do:   “In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you,  by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation . . .”

Now more than ever, I feel it is critical for us to keep the Word of Wisdom.
